Mission
Dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the art of Morris David Dorenfeld, the Foundation shall work to further the artistic legacy of Mr. Dorenfeld through education in the fiber arts, exhibitions of his work, and placement of his art in private and public museum collections.
Vision
The Foundation will establish Morris David Dorenfeld as an important American artist with a national and international reputation. Morris David Dorenfeld created tapestries, or paintings in fiber, in Maine for 45 years. In addition to being a prolific tapestry artist, Morrie desired to expand interest in and educate about fiber arts as a fine art medium.
The Foundation will accomplish these goals by:
Organizing exhibitions of Mr. Dorenfeld’s work in major public museums, art centers and other appropriate venues.
Coordinate gallery representation and exhibitions in the highest profile commercial galleries.
Garner high profile press through books, periodicals, on-line and newspapers.
Offer support grants to practicing artists, professional curatorial or administrative personnel in the arts, and/or educational programs in the practice of art, with an emphasis on the fiber arts. Because of Morrie’s long affiliation with Maine, the foundation will have a preference for applications from Maine artists and organizations in addition to those working in fiber arts, although artists in various media with similar artistic aims from throughout the United States will be considered as well.
